Review of "The Distance Between"

Description:
Michael Adams, a lawyer in his late twenties, has everything a guy could wish for. He’s smart, rich, good-looking and has a degree from an Ivy-League university. There is only one thing he cannot have; his stepbrother David. He’s struggled with his feelings for years and even traveled great distances to be away from David.

Michael has tried to build a new life for himself in Paris where he is dating a handsome French guy, Remi. All the ingredients for a happy, successful life are there but Michael can’t get over his feelings for his stepbrother. After all this time David is still the man of his dreams.

David has felt the same way about his stepbrother for a long time; he loves Michael more than anything. But Michael has been too afraid of their families’ reaction to let David into his life. He pushes his stepbrother away constantly and David throws himself into the arms of a series of wrong men.

Review:
What an emotional roller coaster. I was sucked into the characters lives and torment immediately.
A wonderful story of two men's journey to find and acknowledge true love.
The extreme emotional conflict of falling for someone society says you shouldn't and hurting that person to keep them at a distance. A decade of push and pull, arguments and hurt, lashing out to keep your hearts desire at arms length.
Michael was such a tormented soul, you will find yourself crying for him. He wants to push away his feelings and desires for David. Brief moments of happiness and fulfillment give you hope for a happy ever after. The extremes Michael goes to causes both men pain.
David keeps hope alive. No matter what Michael or Michael's father dish out, David takes it. He wants to be accepted and loved by the two men most important to him. David is a whistful romantic in many ways.
Taboo love stories are often written to titilate. While there are moments of desire acted upon in this story, the heart of it is about the relationship and rivalry between step siblings. Both seeking a fathers approval draw them apart, many times.
A delightful set of supporting characters. An understanding sister and brother in law bring warmth and understanding to the story. A mom/step mom who seems like the heart of the family, bringing them together for Sunday family dinners. Younger twin brothers that bind them together as a family. A host of friends and lovers, brings laughter, understanding of self and some levity to the tale.
I enjoyed this novel. Emotionally I felt as if I had been through the ringer with these characters. I would love to read more by this author. Even a follow up with the main and supporting characters would be nice. Since same sex marriages are legal in many states it would be nice to see the couples commit. Just wishful thinking. I hated that the story ended, I need more!

Walk down the Aisle with Sinners!

“Sinners at the Altar”

(Sinners on Tour)

By Olivia Cunning

Review by Wendy Dawn

“In Summation”:

Sinners need love too...

Sinners at the Altar includes four complete wedding stories, each about a different member of the rock band Sinners. These novellas are intended to be read after the Sinners on Tour series as each story is an epilogue to a different book in the series and thus riddled with major spoilers for not only individual books, but in some cases, the entire series.

When Sinners tie the knot, things don't always go as planned.

Appetite for Seduction - Epilogue to Backstage Pass
Lead guitarist Brian Sinclair may have finally won Professor Myrna Evans heart and her consent to wed, but being part of a high-maintenance band might just ruin his long-anticipated wedding day and steamy wedding night. Will the couple ever find a moment's peace or are some things more important than a night of uninhibited love-making?

Sweet Love of Mine - Epilogue to Wicked Beat
Drummer Eric Sticks is determined to marry sweet and sassy soundboard operator, Rebekah Blake, on the spur of the moment. But can he really offer the love of his life the wedding of her dreams in a small, unplanned ceremony? And can Rebekah offer Eric the one thing missing from his life that never realized he wanted?

Patience - Epilogue to Rock Hard
Lead singer Sed Lionheart never really wanted a big fancy wedding. He just wanted the girl. But his hot-tempered fiancee, Jessica Chase, has her heart set on a memorable ceremony and she is determined to persist through the aggravation to have the wedding of her dreams. The ceremony turns out to be memorable, all right, but not necessarily in the way they'd planned. Can the stressed-out couple recognize what's really important on their wedding day, or is the honeymoon over before it even begins?

November Rain - Epilogue to Hot Ticket
Professional dominatrix Aggie "Mistress V" Martin is madly in love with bassist Jace Seymour, but she's not in any real hurry to marry him. She's not really the wife "type". That all changes the moment she lays eyes on the perfect place to say "I do". With more than one obstacle in their path to wedded bliss, will these two ever make it down the aisle or will everything fall apart at the whim of others?

“The Reviews are in”:

This is a must read for any fan of Olivia Cunning’s brilliant series ‘Sinners on Tour’. Each story in this novel is a follow up to the individual band members novel, with the exception on Trey…he’s the cuddly one who has two significant others, his trip to the altar comes in Ms. Cunning’s new series about the band Exodus End.
As always the characters are well developed, heck you already know and love them! The storylines and plots are fresh and emotionally charged as weddings should be. Enjoy catching up with your favorite Sinner.

Brian’s trip to wedded bliss is first up in ‘Appetite for Seduction’. Myrna and Brian do it up Vegas style at a drive thru widow chapel.
Having asked Myrna to marry him several times and being turned down, Brian persisted and got her to say yes.

“Yeah, but you didn’t love me then. I asked you if you were opening up possibilities between us and you said only sexual ones. And then you gave me your panties to makes sure I understood exactly what you meant.” He still had those panties somewhere.   ~Brian to Myrna on constantly asking her to marry him

Brian is the romantic of the band; he is sentimental and wants everything to be perfect for his bride. She is perfect for him and he knows it. However, marrying a Sinner means you get the whole band.

“Guys, today is all about me,” she said, “so shut the hell up.”
Brian chuckled and lifter her hand to his lips. He kissed her knuckles. “That’s one reason I know I had to marry you.”
“Because I’m b*tchy?”
“Because you don’t treat my band makes like rock stars.”
“She does bitch at us,” Trey said.
“Constantly,” Sed added.
“And I, for one, like it very much,” Eric said.
This couples vows will make you weep openly, they are so sweet and romantic. Emotions are high, have your tissues ready.
Complete with an Elvis impersonator serenading the newlyweds with ‘Love me Tender’, all the Sinners singing along making it fun and original. The happy couple begins their journey together as man and wife only to have their honeymoon interrupted by a near tragedy.
Love and brotherhood hold this band together; marriage to your soul mate just strengthens the bond.

*************
Next Sinner crashing down the aisle is Eric in ‘Sweet Love of Mine’. He and Rebekah are the most unconventional of all the Sinners couples. They begin their wedding day with a successful cancer screening for Rebekah and a memorable stop at a costume shop.

Cleopatra and Mark Antony. Romeo and Juliet. Bonnie and Clyde. Those Couples had died horribly for each other. Rebekah scrunched her eyebrows together.  “Ever notice how the most memorable couples all died way before their time?”
“I guess suicide is more romantic than paying the mortgage and folding laundry.” (Eric)
~Rebekah and Eric discussing costume choices for their wedding

From one extreme to the other, this couple keeps you on your toes. They are fun and funny together. Most importantly, they bring out the best in each other. Eric being an abandoned child has always suffered with issues; with Rebekah, he finds his home.

“Forever was just a word until I met you. Now it’s a promise. A dream. My cherished reality. I love you forever, Rebekah. My love. My wife.”   ~Eric being romantic
One of the funniest characters in this series, Eric Sticks, is actually quiet romantic where his bride is concerned. If you are one to cry at weddings get more tissues, when the sweet romantic side of Eric comes out you will weep. His insecurities will break your heart.
This unconventional couple ties the knot in a very traditional way. This groom’s band and new family (in-laws) come thru for them in a big way.
Some very memorable moments are made just watch out for the M.V.P. and M.P.A. conversation…I laughed so hard at Sed blushing! Yep, Sed blushes!

*************
Lead singer Sed is up next at the altar, on a beach in ‘Patience’. Jessica wants the perfect wedding and so does her mother. Her mother has driven everyone crazy for months to the point the couple had to set their foot down a few times…but that doesn’t stop her for long.
Of course, the Sinners aren’t going to let big tough rock god Sed get by without a proper hazing before his nuptials.

Eric handed him a pink box that looked like something a three year-old would store her beloved plastic princess tiara in.
“What’s this?” Sed asked.
“This is where you’ll keep your balls once you’re married,” Eric said. “Jess probably doesn’t want to continue keeping them for you.”
~Fun prior to the wedding with Sinners

With the wind whipping around a hilarious abbreviated version of vows are said to each other. Their perfect wedding on the beach is crashed by rain just as they say ‘I do.’ Jessica finally relaxes and lets the water roll down her back (literally) and enjoys her day.

He touched her face, his eyes searching hers. “Are you really mine now?”
“I’ve been yours since the day we met,” she said. “The only difference is now you have it in writing.”
He chuckled.  “A little insurance never hurt.”
~ Sed and Jessica letting reality set of their new status

An interesting reception with Exodus End covering traditional wedding songs is just the beginning of the adventure of the newlyweds. New Mother in law issues begin to threaten the new union, however, cooler heads and an adventure awaits the couple.
The reception is followed with a wonderfully romantic dinner for just the two. Of course, semi-public sexcapades are on the menu. You know Sed can’t resist and neither can Jessica when it comes to their fetish.
Their wedding may not make you weep, Sed will show a romantic and vulnerable side that will have you crying. The big guy is a lovesick man and he wears it well.

*************
Finally, the shy bass player Jace gets his turn with a touch of supernatural in ‘November Rain’.
Aggie and Jace have a very special relationship, he trusts her with his body, heart and mind. As his dominatrix, she loves the power he gives over to her and only her.

Her mom laughed. “You tow are so cute together. Both hard on the outside and soft on the inside. You’ve cracked each other’s shells and are all gooey and mixed up together now.”   ~Aggie’s mom saying how she sees the couple

Aggie has been waiting for the perfect location to ‘speak’ to her before she pledges herself completely to Jace. While on tour in England they find just the place, as a bonus it may have ties to his ancestors.

“I feel strange when we’re here. Not bad strange, but strange.”
She saw a familiar corridor and headed for the office.
“What do you mean?” She asked, half her attention on him, half on finding their way.
“The way I feel when I get home after being on tour for a couple of months.”
“Tired and horny. Gotcha,” She said with a laugh.
~Jace trying to describe how the English castle and grounds makes him feel

Two biggest enigmas in this series get a fun adventure with a touch of supernatural for their big day. It is a wonderful twist to some really serious emotions that are flowing for the couple.
Secrets are revealed, from both sides of the fence and both sides of the veil.
Jace actually lets his guard down and tells Aggie how he feels in front of all their family, friends and his band mates. His words are so heartfelt and pull you into what has made him the way he is and the man he has become. Tears will fall for the little boy Jace was and for the man that needs Aggie to complete him.
This is the most emotional of all the vows exchanged in the novel. In the past readers saw a glimpse of who Jace was now we get a bigger picture, which makes him so much more loveable.

Personal note:
WOW! When I finished this novel, I had gone thru a box of tissues and lots of chocolate. Normally I do not cry at weddings, but these Sinners and the Lady Sinners feel like family. I love that they all get their HEA in each of their individual novels. Seeing their trips to the altar was a dream come true.
I hope Ms. Cunning plans to give us more from these characters. I want to see them grow as family men. Wouldn’t it be cool if their kids put together a band in the future and they could tour together…Sinners and Saints tour anyone?

Feel the WILD Sparks!

“Chasing the WILD Sparks”

By Ren Alexander

Review by Wendy Dawn

“The Reviews are in”:

An amusing read about two people so in love they can’t see strait. Hadley wants to be a wife and mother sooner than later. Finn has his own ideas about how marriage kills love. These two funny and warm characters make themselves miserable weather they are together or apart.
Their good friends try to steer them is a better direction and give them relationship advise. Some good, some bad…lots of humor and witty sarcasm.

“It’s always better to fly your own kite.”
I narrow my eyes in thought. “I think that’s the slogan for something.”
“Maxi pads, maybe?”
~Rod and Hadley talking about going to the kite festival

Finn does try to tell Hadley how he feels for a sportscaster he doesn’t articulate it well. She never really understands how important she is to him. She is hung up on how gorgeous his female fans, the Finnatics, are and not what he is telling her.

“I’m thinking that you’re my lucky charm. I want you wherever I am, by my side, even when it’s not possible. And right now, I’m thinking I’d rather be kissing you than arguing with you.”
~Finn to his ‘Becks’

Hadley feels like Finn’s dirty little secret. They have been together three years and he has yet to introduce her to any of his work colleagues or let his adoring fans know that he is taken. This causes a huge rift and almost the end for them.
Her friends, Morgan and Rod, know the lovers are crazy about each other however; they can’t get on the same page in their relationship or compromise for the other one.

“Why? He only wants back into your vagina!” Wow.
“Morgan!” Finn seethes.
“What? Are you going to say that’s a lie? You think of her as a dick cozy!”
~Morgan and Finn arguing about why he wants Hadley

These two, Hadley and Finn, have to be the hardest headed uncompromising characters you will ever read. They will draw you into their world and you can’t wait to see what happens next. Fighting and making up is how they solve things. At times, as a reader, you will root for one of them then the next time you will root for the opposite one.
Seeing glimpses into Finn’s perspective help know what he is thinking, if only he would talk to the woman he loves and tell her everything their forever could begin.
You will be ready to grab the next installment in the series as soon as you finish this novel. Becoming so involved in the characters lives and issues, you have to find out where all of this is going.

“Daring the WILD Sparks”

By Ren Alexander

Review by Wendy Dawn

“The Reviews are in”:

Hadley Beckett and Finn Wilder are back and at it again. Ms. Alexander does not disappoint with the latest installment of our favorite fighting, loving and laughing couple. She just keeps getting better and the characters develop into real people with hilarious personalities before your eyes.
There is so much pressure for a Forever between the two lovers from family, friends and each other trying to push them to make a decision. Who will give in first, Finn or Hadley?
Finn performs an outrageous stunt for his TV News segment “The Wilder Side”, after Hadley dares him to show her how much he loves her. It says true love like nothing else ever could.
Nevertheless, you know what Hadley really wants, a marriage and a baby with Finn. They fuss and make up so many times over this is it will make you dizzy. Finn just wants her to live with him, he says it’s still a commitment and he needs her beside him. However, Finn Wilder has a secret, which he never tells Hadley unless she is asleep. As a reader, we are let in on his biggest secret! (Not spoiling it for you!)

“Yes. You are my home. That’s why I want you living with me. The only time I feel like I’m truly home is when I’m with you. It doesn’t even matter where we are.” He looks up at the lighthouse, squinting again. “This is home with you by my side.”
~Finn explaining why he wants Hadley to live with him so badly

During Easter Mass, Hadley has some major epiphanies. Some good, like finding a nickname for Finn. Some not so good, feeling like she is not good enough for him due to her spirituality or lack of religion.
As the first time they are together in a church so many issues come to light for Hadley. Just not the ones Finn thinks she has upset her.

“Sparks?”
I nod, but don’t elaborate. The flaming wick spitting fire reminded me of the feelings he kindled in my heart when we first met. Finn is like a roaring wildfire that has engulfed my life, but he’s also those small, unassuming, yet rebellious, sparks hat set my world ablaze in the first place.
~Hadley’s nickname for Finn explained

After the emotional roller coaster of Easter Weekend is behind the couple, you hope they move forward with their plans. Well you would be wrong. They are still the hardheaded people they were in book one. Although he has begun introducing her as his girlfriend and even acknowledged her on air is a step in the right direction. Three years hiding his private life causes some eyebrows to rise.
You may want to reach into the pages and shake both of them before the end of the book, especially when Finn begins talking to a female co-worker with his side of the latest argument.
Through his eyes, it seems like a limited insight that would give people the impression that Hadley is not concerned with his feelings and needs. This garners unwanted attention from the flirtatious co-worker, red flags goes up for Finn and he gets out of the situation. As a reader, you will be so mad at him for even opening up to this relationship vampire.
Meanwhile, Hadley is taking time to decide what she can actually give up for Finn and is she ready to do so just to be with him forever. All of this pressure and little sleep make her a very cranky girl.

“No, I’m not ragging it. When I am, you will be the first to know.” Right after I tell my terrified boyfriend, so he can throw a party to celebrate my bleeding. I wonder what kind of party favors he’d get for a party like that. Maxi pads and Midol?
~Hadley yelling at Rod when he accuses her of being grouchy due to that time of the month

With Hadley’s state of mind she asks Rod what he thinks is attractive about their office’s siren.

“I don’t know Women like her remind me of Christmas lights. They’re pretty to look at, even fun to twist into different configurations above your bed, but they’re a b*%ch to drag out of the house and a pain in the a** to get rid of. Plus, once the novelty of Christmas wears off, they’re passé. You want them out of your sight.”
~Rod explaining to Hadley his theory on high maintenance women like their co-worker Shasta

Will these two ever work out their issues? Do they know what compromise even means? Moreover, for a man who is so Catholic he is breaking all of his churches covenants, why?
Again, you and I both will be waiting with baited breath for the next installment of this WILD saga!

"Gravity" keeps you Grounded!

“Gravity” By Shayne McClendon

Review by Wendy Dawn

“In Summation”:

JoEllen Astor grew up poor in one of the worst trailer parks in Oklahoma. A childhood spent taking care of her mother and working hard has made her world weary already.

One night, she meets Holden Mayes, a man who thinks she's far too young for a man like him but can't help but want her. He makes a mistake that almost derails their relationship before it ever starts and is determined to make it right...no matter how long it takes.

Their accidental friendship is the only thing that keeps her together when tragedy strikes that shakes the very foundation of Jo's world.

When a man is slow, steady, and determined in his pursuit...how long can you fight your feelings for him?

“The Reviews are in”:

A moving novel that has a clear message, you can overcome your circumstances with hard work and education. A well thought out storyline with realistic characters.
Taking care of herself and her young mother her whole life JoEllen (Jo) is a force to be reckoned with in many ways. She is the head of her household and working to make a better life for herself.
Jo’s mother, Donna, is young and carefree. She has Jo to take care of her. The role reversal is sad in so many ways. A life not lived, chances not given or taken, self worth and self-esteem never present. Donna is a mess.

Donna liked having men stare at her and would often sunbathe in the front yard wearing a string bikini with the American flag on it. Since a lot of their neighbors were also vets, it sent a message loud and clear.   ~musings about Jo’s mother Donna

When Jo moves forward into the responsible role, she is very young. She is proud of her accomplishments and will not let anyone take them from her or belittle them.

“Call me kid one more f*cking time and I’m gonna go seriously white trash on you’re a**. I’m twenty-two, a high school graduate, a master welder and carpenter, a web designer, and working to become a master electrician. I pay all the bills in this house and haven’t been a kid since I was four.”    ~Jo telling Holden off for calling her a kid

Living in a closet for her entire life, she has never had windows to stare out and daydream. She has never witnessed the beauty around her, keeping her head down and plowing forward to her goals.

Raising her head for the first time, she discovers an unlikely friend, Holden. He has been slowly creeping into her life with the patience of a saint. Pursuing her with out her even realizing what is happening. His patience and restraint are unreal, but his end goal will be worth it.
True love and all it entails can be within their grasp if they only have the courage to grab it with both hands.

This is a moving story of a lost childhood and finding love right under your nose. Plot twists and turns keep you involved in the story. A love that will warm your heart and stay with you long after you have put the novel down.

The Ratings*:

Hero: 5
Heroine: 5
Story/Plot/HEA: 5

Get 'Deliciously Obedient' with my review of Julia Kent's novel.

“Deliciously Obedient” By Julia Kent

Review by Wendy Dawn

“In Summation”:

The final book in the Obedient trilogy asks whether being authentic means losing everything in order to gain yourself...

Ego bruised but spirits lifted by her relationship with Jeremy, her ex-lover's best friend, Lydia Charles comes home to her family's campground in coastal Maine with a new boyfriend, some old anxieties, and one big question: where's Michael Bournham?

Mike's spent the last month incognito, living at the Charles family campground and sorting through his past to make sense of his future. Dropping out of the media spotlight was the best choice he could have made, and with Lydia safe in the job he created for her, far away in Iceland, he has plenty of time to think about how he hurt her...and how to win her back.

Jeremy followed Mike's instructions to the letter: take care of Lydia. Falling hopelessly for her, though, wasn't in this free-wheeling globe trotter's plan. Meeting her parents and settling down triggers his own issues, and when a sudden tragedy hits one of Lydia's beloved relatives, he finds himself confronting his own past...and shaping the future.

It's all in Lydia's hands now as she breaks every rule in an effort to learn whether the rules ever mattered at all.

**This ends the Obedient series -- read the 900+ page story arc by getting Maliciously Obedient and Suspiciously Obedient as well!**

“The Reviews are in”:

Julia Kent does it again! She is wrapping up her Obedient series with all the laughs and plot twists you expect.
As the third installment to the series all, the characters are highly developed and you feel as if you are greeting old friends. Some of the characters from her other series weave into the plot as well. This gives you a sense of security that the characters you have come to love are still out there having fun and being funny.
Lydia comes home from Iceland to lick her wounds and figure out what she wants to do with the rest of her life. Michael is still hiding from the world. Jeremy tags along with Lydia for the ride.
Bringing home a hot tall Nordic looking guy raises some eyebrows at her family’s campground.

“It turns out you brought a Viking home, after all,” Miles said slowly.   ~Lydia’s brother commenting on Jeremy

With things in full swing at the campground no one notices that a guest, Mike, is really the hiding Michael. Therefore, the family goes along with life and Lydia tries to decide what to do next as she bunks with Jeremy. Actually falling for Jeremy comes easier with out Michael in the picture.
Lydia’s friend Krysta comes to the campground to help get Lydia motivated to the next phase of her life. Of course, the girls end up discussing sex and all things male.

“Anal’s so…last decade. Everyone knows ménage is the new anal.”   ~Miles commenting on the conversation between Lydia and Krysta

Even though Lydia is having the sex of her life, she still is confused. She has no idea what she wants to do, or if Jeremy is the man to be with especially since, she is having dreams about Michael and Jeremy.
Even discussing it with Krysta does not help.

“Conversations with you are like talking to Dan Savage on acid while licking Miley Cyrus.”   ~Lydia’s friend Krysta talking about sex with Lydia

Lydia’s grandmother, Madge, is quite the character. She has been in several of Ms. Kent’s novels. Her humor will have you rolling on the floor laughing. When you think things are bad…you just need some Madge.

“Get away. All of you. I don’t need eight hands to help me climb out of a sedan. If I’m going to have eight hands on me, they’d better be attached to men wearing butt floss and dollar bills tucked in places not meant for sunlight.”   ~Madge, Lydia’s grandmother wanting everyone to let her be

Jeremy gives Lydia the chance to find out what is still driving her toward Michael. He loves her and is willing to chance what ultimately could be for all three of them.

“Perfect love means no fear. Only a deep knowing, groundedness that comes from wanting the most for each other.”   ~Jeremy describing love to Lydia

From hot sex scenes to serene fall days on the campground, this is the perfect way to end a series. Happiness, sorrow and love. The Obedient series has it all in spades.  Plot twists, heartbreak and travel.
Fall in love with Ms. Kent’s characters every time you read one of her novels. She never disappoints. Well written and thought out plot lines. Highly developed and engaging characters make her one of the best writers you will ever read. In addition, side splitting humor keep you interested in the fate of her personalities.

The Ratings*:

Get revved up with "Ryder"!

“Ryder”

Scorpions MC Prequel

By Jani Kay

Review by Wendy Dawn

“In Summation”:

Contains Explicit Sex & Extreme Language for Mature Audiences 18+++
WARNING!!!
PLEASE DO NOT read this book if you are easily offended or squeamish about language or sexual situations. It is a prequel. Purpose: to give background on the characters - why they are the way they are. It is purely FICTION.

Ryder has a foul mouth and a dirty mind and doesn't think much of women after being deserted by his mother as a kid - he's a MC biker FFF - one who had a ROUGH childhood...so expect BAD things in his past...it's what makes him the person he is... I'm not apologising for that and I'm not 'softening' Ryder in any way (and insulting my reader's intelligence in the process). Deal with it!!!
Because as much as it IS fiction, these things do happen in real life...

All Jade ever wants is an intelligent, well-mannered, and highly educated man like her daddy. One who has stellar career prospects as he climbs the corporate ladder to success. A good provider who will give her a stable life and a gorgeous house in the right neighborhood. A charmed life. Everything orderly and well balanced. Her perfect match.
What she doesn’t want is a smartass, cocky, rough-around-the-edges biker. One who has tattoos and piercings, and looks like a sex god. One who is demanding and controlling. The ultimate alpha male who storms into her life and shakes her to the core. Who won’t take no for an answer.
Jade never saw it coming. Ryder is the one man she can’t resist. He shows her what she really needs. Him.
Jade is the quintessential good girl. But what if she discovers that her perfect world isn’t as great as she believes it to be?
Underneath the layer of propriety, is there a naughty girl waiting to break free. Is Ryder the man to show her how?

All Ryder wants is inner peace. Freedom from the hatred churning in his gut.
Since his mother deserted him, his life has turned to shit.
He’s killed a man, lost his brother and fought for his survival. All before turning twelve.
Saved by Razor and Cobra, sons of the Scorpions, he owes his life and allegiance to them. The Scorpion MC is his only family. One he will serve and protect till his dying breath.
What he doesn’t need in his life is a smart mouthed woman who thinks she’s better than him. One who pushes every one of his buttons. One who challenges him to want to be more than a drifter. One who makes him question everything he’s ever known.
Ryder never saw it coming. He can’t get Jade out of his head. She shows him what he really wants. Her.

Two worlds colliding. Can they make it work? Or will it tear them apart?
Ryder wants Jade beneath him. Submitting to him and only him.

“I’m addicted to the taste of you, baby. Your skin. Your mouth. Your pussy. Give it to me. All of it. I want it all.” ~ Ryder

Jade has other plans that don’t include badass biker boys.

“A perfect man is non-existent. So I wasn’t waiting for a perfect man. I was just waiting for the man who was perfect for me.” ~ Jade

Can two people, so different in every way, find love?

The Prequel is a novella, and continues in Scorpions MC: Two Worlds Colliding (Book 1) Release Date: 18 March 2014. The Prequel also ties in with the Firebird Series: characters from 'Lost in France' appear in this prequel. (If you would like to read more about Max, Ryder's half brother, and Rebecca, Jade's cousin, you will enjoy Lost In France.)

“The Reviews are in”:

A wonderful beginning to a new series of novels. You are introduced to some new characters with some wonderful background stories. There are some familiar faces thrown in as well from some of Ms. Kay’s previous novels.
Two individuals that have opposite backgrounds and ambitions cross paths, they challenge each other’s patience first then they challenge each other’s libidos.
Jade is a princess. She can take care of herself, but she is Daddy’s little girl. Her life is all planned out for her, at least in her mind. She is onboard with Daddy’s plans for her to marry and have the white picket fence. However, she has an idea of what type of man she wants to settle down with as a wife.
Finishing in college, she is not stupid. Jade’s quick wit and strait forward approach makes her an interesting personality.

Not understanding why my heart was beating so furiously at the sight of him striding toward me, with a cocky grin plastered on his face. Yes, Ryder Knox was sex on legs.   ~Jade observing Ryder

Jade’s attraction to the tough as nails biker is pushed to the back of her mind as she observes him and goes on with her life and well mapped out future. She never imagined that Ryder was attracted to her.
Ryder is the bad boy all women want. He has an unimaginable childhood. His story is heart breaking. He finds his salvation through his new family; Scorpions MC. Loyal to a fault, Ryder is exactly what you see he puts up no fronts or makes any excuses.
Finally, he is in the right place at the right time to be a knight in shining armor for Jade. He scoops her up and proceeds to make her his woman.

How screwed up this was. A princess and a biker. It couldn’t work in a million years. I know that. Yet, I couldn’t stop myself even if I wanted to.   ~Ryder musing about his new possessiveness of Jade

Some of Ryder’s language and endearments will make you blush. He is a hard-core MC biker. It’s exactly how you would imagine him…hot, tattooed and unapologetic. He takes what he wants at he happens to want Jade.
Neither character can predict what will happen next. It is exciting to see them come together. You will look forward to the series just to see what happens with these lovers. Motorcycle sex has never been so hot!

Uncover "Dirty Little Lies" with my Review!

“Dirty Little Lies” By Clare James

Review by Wendy Dawn

“In Summation”:

Twenty-nine-year-old Stevie Sinclair has just lost everything: her boyfriend, her apartment, even her ugly bird named Free. (Yeah, she knows it’s stupid name, so don’t start.) But most importantly, Stevie’s lost herself.

As she shuffles through her days in worn-out Hello Kitty PJs—eating ice cream, sipping wine, and contemplating her next move—a magazine article catches her attention. Blaring black letters read: "How to Get Your Sexy Back in Six Easy Steps."

Stevie studies the article in the trashy magazine like the good student she is and immediately knows what she has to do. With the magazine article in hand, and a bottle of red in her bag, Stevie embarks on a journey to reclaim her life and win back her ex.

Until she meets Gabe Shannon. Gorgeous, single, and on a quest of his own, Gabe introduces Stevie to a lifestyle that is sure to help get her sexy back and then some. If she doesn’t chicken out … (Oh, you know where this is going.)

What follows is a story of self-discovery, romantic gestures, erotic encounters, and following one's heart--even if it leads in unexpected directions.

Note: Portions originally published online as The Club e-series, Dirty Little Lies now has 70% more content, chapters from Gabe's point of view, and a sizzling conclusion to this steamy tale.

“The Reviews are in”:

A truly moving book about a woman who has let her self-esteem and confidence bottom out. This is a novel most women can identify with at some point in their lives. From Stevie’s inner dialogue to her embracing her fears and pushing forward, you will laugh and cry…and be inspired!

Being in one of the longest relationships of her life, Stevie is in a rut. She sees Max, her live in boyfriend, as just another ‘Ken Doll’. He is visually appealing, they have a great friendship, but in the boudoir he can give her the big ‘O’ she needs.
However, she sticks with the safe relationship because she thinks she can’t do any better and it is what it is…she settles.

Yeah, my sex life with Max sucks balls. He knows it; I know it…
No, it wasn’t hot and heavy like I had with some guys, but it was comfort and love and security. Real grown-up stuff. And considering I turn thirty this year, I’d say it’s about time.
~Stevie settling and accepting her bad sex life and lack of orgasms
Finding condoms in Max’s travel kit, causes a confrontation between the two. He admits to sleeping with others. Yes plural OTHERS! Then doesn’t explain he leaves immediately for a business trip.
Wallowing is pity and doubt, what’s a modern girl to do? Turn to Cosmo of course. The article about getting your sexy back is right on the money for what Stevie needs right now.

As I read the article, one thing is glaringly true - my sexy has long left the building. But no more. My mind races, forming a plan and I go with it. I mean if Cosmo can’t help put my life on the right track, what can?   ~Stevie planning to get her sensuality back after her split with Max

Staying at a hotel after moving from Max’s apartment, she meets Gabe. He is sexy and easy to talk to, especially since Cosmo said to flirt with a stranger and have a sexual adventure Stevie dives in batting her eyelashes.
Gabe is an interesting man. He oozes sexuality and confidence. It doesn’t take long for Gabe to agree with Stevie’s plan to get her sexy back. He even takes her to a private club to help her with her adventure.

“It’s Venus,” Gabe says.
Hence the name, I guess, but weird all the same. Venus watches over us and we approach.
Then Gabe reaches in his pocket, pulls out my panties, and drops them at the statue’s feet.
~Stevie and Gabe entering club Venus and leaving an offering to the Goddess of love

Seeing how Stevie grows as a character and regains her confidence is inspiring. Gabe also shows her that wanting something more than vanilla is normal; she just needs the right partner.
She dives into her adventure with little prodding from Gabe.

This is what I wanted - an adventure - and I say it’s go big or go home.   ~Stevie getting into the spirit of her sexual adventure and embracing what club Venus offers

These characters will keep you on your toes wondering what is behind the next door. Both have agreed to the time allotted for the adventure. They will part as friends…but what if they want more?
Stevie started this to get her sexy back in order to take control of her relationships and gain Max back. Will she still want him after the sweet and attentive Gabe?
Sweet, sexy and inspiring, this novel doesn’t disappoint.

Read "Body Language", my review!

“Body Language” By Dahlia Salvatore

Review by Wendy Dawn

“In Summation”:

Carmen Andrews hasn't spoken for a year, not since she was viciously tortured by a psychopath. Forced into silence by the trauma, she finds a new life in a new town.
As a dancer, she can get away with not speaking. In her head is a mess of memories, withheld frustrations, and a host of wingless dreams. When her psychologist exhausts all of her resources, she sends Carmen to a speech therapist.

Fresh out of graduate school, Jacob Weller hopes to help those suffering from mutism and other speech disorders. When he meets Carmen, he finds her attractive, but his ethics keep him from acting on his impulses.
When tragedy strikes, his own sanity is challenged and his professionalism takes a hit. Believing that he has failed and with few visible changes in Carmen, he considers referring her to a new doctor.

Carmen has other thoughts on the matter, but struggles with her demons, ones that keep her mouth firmly shut and her heart desperately wanting.

“The Reviews are in”:

A novel that will draw you into the storyline from the first words. Well written and developed storyline. You will hear the music in your head, from classical ballet music to the raw and emotional blues/jazz. The music becomes one of the supporting characters.

Prima ballerina, Carmen, is attacked and tortured. After her physical wounds heal, she chooses not to speak aloud. Her current therapist is baffled and not able to make any progress with Carmen. The doctor refers her to a colleague, who is just starting his practice, specializing in speech problems.

It’s a strange way to end a relationship, with a handshake. All my life I’ve thought a handshake was the way you greeted someone or agreed to something.   ~Carmen musing on her Doctor referring her to someone else and shaking her hand

Her new doctor, Jacob, is fresh out of college and ready to help people. His personal reasons for specializing in speech disorders make him compassionate and willing to try unconventional therapies.

My focus has always been on people with speech disorders; anything ranging from Dysarthia to Aphasia. As a pathologist, I more often diagnose and study than treat these conditions, bit I aim to do it all with my new practice. I suppose my obsession started in my childhood. I had a bad stutter.   ~Jacob discussing his new practice and why he chose his specialty

Part of what makes Dr. Jacob Weller interesting is his drive. He set aside friendships to pursue his degree. The completion of the degree leaves him lonely with time on his hands for once in his life, causing him to be reflective.

The two letters before my name are at the zero mark. I long for someone to celebrate with, a friend to have drinks with, but I can’t thing of a single soul with whom I could sit in a bar and feel comfortable. My sister is just about the only person that comes to mind, but a sister - even your twin sister - is not the same thing as a buddy.   ~Jacob musing on how he let relationships go to pursue his Doctorial Degree

As Jacob deals with personal tragedy, Carmen walks away from dancing and the company where she had previously been the star. Both confused and troubled souls find themselves in one of the cities nightclubs.
Carmen is drawn to the elderly blues singer, Ms. Mabel. She sees something wonderful and special in the songstress and thru a misunderstanding becomes her assistant. They develop a friendship and Ms. Mabel gives her many pearls of wisdom, to use in the next phase of the young dancer’s life.

“My name came to me so early, it’s like I’ve been two people my whole life,” she says. “Onstage, I’m Ms. Mabel. Off-stage, I’m Hilda. They’re so different, the both of ‘em.” She chuckles. “I think it’s because to let go of the pain you feel as a real person, you’ve got to become something else. But to get rid of the pain, or at least to get away from it, most people would de anything, least of all give up their name.”   ~Wisdom from blues/jazz singer Ms. Mabel/Hilda to Carmen

Seeing Carmen as a strong survivor, Jacob envies her strength and ability to push forward. He knows someday she will use her voice again. His personal issues have him crying and feeling weak, which is why he admires Carmen.

Like a little boat on an ocean with a one-man crew, she has drifted alone for a year, navigated treacherous waters, weathering the typhoons. I find myself minimized by her bravery. Above everything else I want to know about her, I wish she would tell me how she does it. I wish I could know what it’s like to be truly strong.   ~Jacob admiring Carmen’s strength
Truly fascinating to see the patient and doctor relationship evolve, as both Jacob and Carmen work thru their own problems. A murder mystery is woven into the storyline for interest and intrigue. It doesn’t disappoint, this draws you in and holds your interest well beyond the love story which is developing.
There are so many possibilities for the talented character, Carmen. Her choices to speak or not…dance or not…and more.
Can the sexy doctor heal her? Can she heal him?
